Short History
“Englishkinder” opened its doors in 1983. Back then, the legal grounds for private education were not specified. Thus, I imagined an educational alternative, aiming at acquiring fluency in English and promoting social integration at preschool level.
I started out teaching in a time when the educational material was scarce and there was no preschool alternative. My only strong point was the ability to communicate with children, as well as my passion for philology, art, aesthetics, a great amount of courage, pedagogic intuition and zeal.
I felt I could share my best to the wonderful kids, who allowed me to intrude gradually in the magic universe of childhood, in which I rediscovered my own children.
Although this period of time did not bring me material profit, I consider it to be the most important, a wonderful learning adventure with my young students; thus, we shared an original experience, in which creativity became the main reason for competition. During this time, they taught me things that no book will ever teach; they offered me a whole new dimension of symbols, the pure world of childhood, a world in which I often rediscover myself and take refuge.
In return, I tried to “mould” the frail “dough” of the youngsters, who are growing to educate their own children. I still take pleasure in playing the “game” of learning, a challenge I shared with my young students, establishing its rules together. We have become partners in the art of “mutual and self discovery, the discovery of our universe, and sometimes in a more intricate game of hierarchy, generalization and abstracting.
My three year old daughter was part of a 10 children group, organized in a single room, I destined as a classroom; I received financial support from my family, my relatives abroad, as well as the trust and encouragement from the children’s parents.
After 1990, different opportunities emerged for the development of the private educational system. About that time, I had fallen in love with my own “creation” and I began to think seriously of designing a modern English teaching syllabus for preschool children, in a more specific environment, relying on the original methods, I had experienced throughout the years.
“Englishkinder” managed to educate children of different nationalities and religions without any discrimination. Romanian, English, as well as other countries’ customs and traditions, linked the children in the friendship and respect of closely-knit multicultural group.
An opening to the western civilization, the need for information, as well as a modern perspective on educational issues, has created an increase in English and other foreign languages applications. The parents realized that the basic skills in phonics and vocabulary of a foreign language acquired at a preschool level are a precious investment for life in the modern society. With respect to these social circumstances, “Englishkinder” has registered an increase in the demands for the intensive English as well as other modern languages teaching program.
